The Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio (HRAB) is in full swing with its celebration of the 2024 Hotel and Restaurant Tourism (HRT) Weekend. This year’s edition, which has become one of the most prestigious events in the hospitality industry, promises a series of exciting activities spread across more than a month.
The celebration began on September 9 with the screening of candidates for the highly anticipated Search for Mr. and Ms. HRAB. Since then, the event has gained momentum, setting the stage for a string of vibrant activities.
The upcoming key dates include the photo shoot of Mr. and Ms. HRAB candidates on September 21 at the Cordillera Convention Hall of the Baguio Country Club (BCC). Following this, on September 22, a talent portion and fashion show, organized in collaboration with Fashion Designers Alliance Cordillera, will take place at SM City Baguio’s Atrium.
As September comes to a close, the candidates will undergo comprehensive training in personality development, poise, posture, and walk, along with question-and-answer coaching. These sessions, facilitated by Empire.ph and Nix Institute of Beauty, will be held from September 30 to October 2 at the Ambassador FVR Hall of BCC.
On October 3, Rice and Shine 3.0, a culinary showcase featuring more than 10 flavors of fried rice from eight participating establishments, will be one of the event’s highlights. The public can sample these dishes after the HRT opening ceremony at SM City Baguio.
The excitement continues on October 8, with the pre-pageant for Mr. and Ms. HRAB at the BCC Cordillera Convention Hall, leading up to the Coronation Night on October 18.
One of the largest attractions of the celebration will be the 15th National Food Showdown, titled ‘Kusina Filipina: Keep the Momentum…Full Speed Ahead.’ Scheduled from October 24 to 26 at the BCC Cordillera Convention Hall, this event will feature 60 categories of hospitality industry competitions, bringing together students and professionals from across the country to showcase their skills.
The grand finale and closing ceremonies of the 17th HRT Weekend will take place on October 26 at the CAP John Hay Trade and Cultural Center, concluding this month-long festival.
HRAB President and BCC General Manager Anthony de Leon highlighted that the decision to extend the HRT Weekend over a longer period, instead of a week, allows participants and guests to immerse themselves more fully in Baguio City’s culture and hospitality. This also supports the sustained growth of local tourism, as more people are encouraged to stay and experience what the city has to offer.
As HRAB continues to foster excellence in the hospitality industry, this year’s HRT Weekend is shaping up to be a milestone event in the ongoing development of Baguio’s tourism sector.
