Pasakalye Group of Artists Shine at Inaugural SMArt Market in Baguio City

Baguio City, Philippines – The Pasakalye Group of Artists (PGA) took center stage earlier today at the launch of the first-ever SMArt Market held in the heart of the country’s first UNESCO Creative City. 

This groundbreaking event inspired by the Art Fair Singapore features 396 artworks from 99 renowned and emerging artists, offering an exceptional showcase for public viewing and purchase. The event will run from July 31 to August 13.

The SMArt Market, making its debut in Baguio City, aims to celebrate the city’s vibrant arts and culture scene. The event presents a diverse collection of small-scale, affordable pieces, allowing art enthusiasts and collectors to explore a wide range of mediums and styles. From traditional paintings to contemporary works, the exhibition offers something for everyone, making art accessible to all.

The Exhibit was opened by (from left) SM Operations Manager Marc Janssen Pe, PGA President Maricar Docyogen, Filmmaker Ferdie Balanag, DTI Regional Director Juliet Lucas, Tourism Officer Alec Mapalo, DFA Baguio Consular Office Head Edgar Canta and Office of the Mayor Representative Doy Tabilog.

The launch was met with enthusiasm and excitement, as visitors immersed themselves in the creative energy of the PGA artists. The event not only provides a platform for artists to showcase their work but also fosters a deeper appreciation for the arts within the community. Attendees had the unique opportunity to meet the artists, discuss their inspirations, and purchase original pieces.

The event kickstarted with the welcome remarks of SM Baguio Operations Manager Marc Janssen Pe, followed by the message of Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, represented by Doy Tabilog. The guest of honor who gave an inspirational message was an art enthusiast and Presiding Judge of MTCC Baguio Ruth Bawayan. City of Baguio Creative Council Co-Chairperson Venus Tan gave an overview of the creative sector. The exhibit was then declared open by PGA President Maricar Docyogen. 

This event marks the beginning of a series of SMArt Market events that will take place in various SM malls across the Philippines. As the SMArt Market continues through August 13, it promises to be a significant cultural event, highlighting the rich artistic heritage of Baguio City and the Philippines. The public is invited to visit and support local artists, expanding their personal art collections while contributing to the growth of the local art scene.

The inaugural SMArt Market in Baguio City marks a milestone for the Pasakalye Group of Artists and the city’s creative community. It is a celebration of art, culture, and the vibrant spirit of the local artistic community. It is also part of the month-long celebration of the eight year anniversary of the Pasa-Kalye Group of Artists. – CCT
