Datuin explained that his proposal aims to promote the pursuit of high academic and professional standards. Awarding a cash incentive to topnotchers will ease some of the financial challenges that these individuals face during their preparation for these difficult exams, he said.

The councilor added that this ordinance will give due recognition to these individuals who enhance the city’s reputation by achieving distinction in highly competitive exams.

Under the ordinance, individuals must meet the following requirements to be eligible for the cash incentive: authenticated certificate or other documents issued by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) or Supreme Court of the Philippines (SCP); authenticated copy of their diploma as proof that they graduated in a school in the city; Barangay Certificate as proof that they are bonafide Baguio residents; Voter’s ID to prove that they or their parents are registered Baguio voters.

Fund for the incentives will be appropriated from the City Administrator’s Office.

The proposed ordinance has been approved on first reading by the Baguio City Council and referred to the Committee on Appropriations and Finance – Cluster A for review. -Jordan G. Habbiling
