The Department of Tourism – Cordillera Administrative Region (DOT-CAR) has proudly awarded Damag, Jacmal & Bunhian in Aguinaldo, Ifugao, the title of 2024’s Best Sustainable Tourism Village. These villages earned the top spot for their outstanding achievements in sustainability, cultural preservation, and community-driven development, showcasing the very best of Cordilleran tourism.
Judges visited the shortlisted villages over seven days to experience firsthand the hospitality, cultural richness, and sustainable practices each village offered. After this comprehensive assessment, Damag, Jacmal & Bunhian emerged victorious, taking home Php 1,000,000.00, a trophy, and a special token in recognition of their exceptional efforts.
In second place, Brgy. Shilan Community Tourism Village in La Trinidad, Benguet, was awarded Php 500,000.00, along with a trophy and token for their environmental efforts and community engagement. Tawang Tourism Village (Liyang Sanctuary Village) in Balbalan, Kalinga, secured third place, receiving Php 200,000.00, a trophy, and a token for its commitment to eco-tourism and nature preservation.
The runners-up, each receiving Php 100,000.00, certificates, and a token, were Barlig Poblacion Tourism Village from Barlig, Mt. Province; Batad Village from Banaue, Ifugao; and Bantay Tourism Village in Tabuk City, Kalinga. These villages also demonstrated remarkable dedication to sustainability and cultural preservation.
Other finalists that made it to the final round included Kalipkip-Busilac Ecotourism Park in Alfonso Lista, Ifugao; Lubo Village in Tanudan, Kalinga; DaguioMan Tourism Village in Daguioman, Abra; Heritage Houses of Licuan-Baay in Licuan-Baay, Abra; Napua Agri-Tourism Village in Sabangan, Mt. Province; and La-Diyang Haven Community in Tuba, Benguet. These villages showcased their unique charm and commitment to sustainable tourism, contributing to the region’s growing eco-tourism landscape.
The 2024 Search for the Best Tourism Villages underscores the importance of cultural preservation, sustainability, and community-driven tourism development in the Cordilleras.
