Benguet Province Recognized for Excellence in Local Revenue Generation

Metro Manila — The Provincial Government of Benguet, led by Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas, has been recognized as one of the top-performing local governments in the country for local revenue generation. The award was presented during the 37th Anniversary Stakeholders’ Recognition event of the Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF), held at Seda Manila Bay in Parañaque City on October 9, 2024.

Benguet ranked second among all provinces in the Year-on-Year Growth in Locally Sourced Revenue (LSR) category for fiscal year 2021, recording a remarkable 67.9% increase in revenue. The province’s LSR grew from P407.15 million in 2020 to P683.65 million in 2021, a notable achievement in the region’s financial management.

Governor Diclas, along with Provincial Treasurer Imelda I. Macanes, received the plaque of achievement during the event. The governor attributed this success to the hard work and teamwork of the personnel in the Provincial Treasury Office and other offices responsible for fee and charge collection. He emphasized that this recognition is a product of continuous collaboration among various offices and a shared commitment to improving revenue collection.

“This achievement is a result of the dedication and collective effort of everyone involved in the revenue generation process. We will continue to work together to maintain, or even surpass, this performance in the future,” Governor Diclas said.

The province previously ranked 7th nationwide in the same category for the 2019-2020 fiscal year. The BLGF’s recognition highlights Benguet’s consistent commitment to financial growth and effective governance, making it a model for other local government units across the country.

The BLGF’s annual recognition program aims to honor local governments that demonstrate excellence in managing locally sourced revenues, a crucial component in promoting fiscal autonomy and improving public services.
