Five municipalities have strongly supported the renewal of BENECO’s franchise before the Senate.
The town of Bakun, Atok, Tuba, Kapangan and Kibungan recently passed their respective resolutions to support the house bill the Lower House transmitted to the upper chamber for its approval.
The resolutions backed House Bill No. 10483, the bill that was passed by the House of Representatives were principally authored by Baguio Rep. Mark Go and Benguet Rep. Eric Yap.
The resolutions have identical titles – “Resolution Strongly Supporting and Endorsing the Enactment Into Law of House Bill 10483 Entitled: An Act Granting Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO) A Franchise to construct, Install, Establish, Operate, Own, Manage, and Maintain, a Distribution System for the Conveyance of Electric Power to the End-Users In All the Municipalities of the Province of Benguet and in Baguio City.”
The municipal resolutions noted the outstanding performance of BENECO as an electric cooperative, highlighting the various citations and awards it had received.
They also recognized the dedication and commitment of BENECO to serve its member consumer owners since 1973 with the effort to provide adequate power supply at reasonable and competitive (electricity) rates.
The measures also lauded the electric cooperative’s efforts to address consumer concerns timely.
BENECO’s 50 year franchise given in March 1978 will end on March 2028. As early as four years ago, the management and the board already worked on the papers required for the franchise renewal. – Laarni S. Ilagan
