Mayor Benjamin Magalong lauded the University of Baguio for its historic achievement as the first university in the country to be granted the International Organization for Standardization ISO 21001:2018 certification.
“We congratulate our very own University of Baguio for attaining such distinction. It proves your commitment to academic excellence that redounds to the quality of education that you impart to your students and future nation builders,” the mayor said.
UB announced receiving the ISO 21001:2018 Certification from TÜV Rheinland Philippines, accredited by KAN (Komite Akreditasi Nasional, LSSMOP-012-IDN).
“This milestone reflects UB’s dedication to excellence in educational management. Congratulations to the entire UB team for their hard work in securing this prestigious honor,” it said.
Earning an ISO certification is not an easy feat as government and private entities including universities have to undergo external and internal audits, workshops, assessments, consultations and training.
ISO is a non-governmental organization composed of national standards organizations from more than 160 countries. These ISO members work together to develop and promote “international standards for technology, scientific testing processes, working conditions, societal issues” among others.
Each specific standard is assigned a number to refer to the “subject matter of the standard within a categorized series.”
UB’s certification is covered by the international standard for a management system specifically designed for educational organizations.
Google information said other universities in the country that have received ISO certification include the Pangasinan State University, said to be “the first multi-campus state university in the Philippines to receive ISO 9001:2015 certification” and the University of the Philippines Manila, “the first campus in the UP System to obtain an international external accreditation.” – Aileen P.
